Spotlight On: Aspen Olympian Torin Yater-Wallace

December 6, 2017

You may have seen him before on the Wheaties box, but Torin Yater-Wallace of the Roaring Fork Valley is more interested in perfecting his form and acheiving Olympic greatness than guest appearances on television talk shows. With a silver medal on the super pipe at the 2011 Aspen X Games and gold medals at the European X Games, Yater-Wallace showed immense promise from a young age. Now, at 22 years old, he can also claim a win at the Olympic skier half pipe test event last February and a World Cup victory at Mammoth Mountain, as well as several other medals at the X Games.

Life for the pro skier has not been without its challenges. He has suffered a collapsed lung, a gall bladder and liver infection, and a medically induced coma. While he unfortunatley had to miss the season-opening event in New Zealand this year, he is still excited and ready for the upcoming Olympic Games. That said, to him, there is nothing quite as exciting as barreling down the half pipe at Buttermilk Mountain with all of his Aspen friends and family cheering him on.

Yater-Wallace is also involved in several ski film projects and has appeared on the Today Show—physically speaking, he is known for his smile. A member of the U.S. Freeskiing team since its debut in 2011 and of the Inaugural 2014 U.S. Freeskiing Olympic team in Sochi, Russia, he is truly a skiing prodigy.
